I mean that it contains an archive that, when executed, will extract itself. It will then compile the driver, and then load the driver, and then start the driver. You will need all the development tools installed.

I wouldn't say stupider. It's very cool what you did, especially publishing your code with explanations - I am pretty sure it was helpful for some people. :)

Thanks Dorin, all very good suggestions. I was younger (and stupider) when I first wrote this, and have in fact made some changes to it since. However, its got a liberal license, so feel free to change it and redistribute.

Hi,
A few notes over your code:
1) in checkspace you can safely use realloc for both cases (and actually, make it just one case) because realloc is guaranteed to act like malloc when passed a null pointer
2) I would make a smarter increment - usually reallocations cost quite a lot because memory allocations cost a lot and resizing may mean copying the previous data. For that, a better way to increment is to double the allocated size. It's also better because chunks of the power of two size can be easier to allocate (if the allocator uses a buddy system for allocation).
3) Find an alternative on systems that don't have realloc. Some embedded systems have it, some don't.
4) For large arrays working at the head of the array may be costy. One simple solution is to implement the storage as circular list in the preallocated space. This way adding to the front of the list becomes a constant time + (possible) reallocation time.
I hope you don't mind the suggestions.

What I've decided is to simply purchase OSX and run it in a VM on my current machine. Its cheaper to do it that way than to buy Apple hardware. Last I checked, OSX can be had from the apple online store for under $40. This is preferable to outlaying a few thousand dollars.

Great articles,

Came across your Andoid article from the group on the Android Developer Challenge — Sub-Saharan Africa. I agree, it is shocking and I also noticed that there went little thought and effort into this competition and I dearly hope our time is not wasted.

I have also started porting my application to IOS, but have not yet registered as an Apple developer, but intend to. It is a bit costly though, because everything you need to develop for Apple needs to be Apple. You need an Apple computer, device and a registered developer account and if you add all the costs up it can become a bit pricey. I will let you know if it is 'easy' for an African developer to submit a paid app once I have done it.

Regards,
